Happy Birthday, Seven Kittens!

The litter that started it all! I can’t tell you how much pleasure it has given me to watch kitty cams on the web. It sounds like a silly waste of time but the wonderful stories of love, caring and creativity have been inspiring (resulting in beautiful quilts, drawings, paintings and T-shirts). The seven kittens from Pittsburgh led to Foster Dad John Barrett from Purrfect Pals in Washington state and his string of successful fosters (he’s on his 36th litter) You can find him with his current litter, the Mythbusters, on LiveStream; his Facebook page is called The Critter Room.

A long day can be made special watching the antics of 4 week old kittens just learning to play and zoom around on wobbly legs (as they are now on the Mythbusters cam). My vocabulary has grown with “new words:”

  • floofy (means fluffy)
  • zoomies (means playing frantically)
  • Uncle Chickenfish (a favorite toy)

Noodles, the lovely blond mother of the Seven Kittens was rescued from the streets and taken into a private home by two very generous women, Jen and Kara. Watching seven hungry kittens feed from one mother all at the same time was quite the site to see!

Here are the little guys and gals that started it all, at 2 months of age:

My, how they’ve grown!

Here some links to the original story of the Seven Kittens:

Those posts spawned a wonderful Kitty Scrapbook by members of the community.

You can also catch up on the litter on The Seven Kittens blog on Facebook.

Thanks to the generous foster parents for your care of these wonderful creatures, and for all the wonderful hours of fun and inspiration!

  1. Happy Birthday to The Seven Kittens! I miss watching them zooming around the room, playing with the laser and their box. Oh, why do they have to grow up??? I discovered them on the Care2 website, as a Friday feature for pleasure viewing. The other day, I left a comment on there, below a “Daily Cute” feature on another kitty, mentioning that The Seven Kittens were a year old and wishing them Happy Birthday. I recognized the names of some of the people there as the same who followed the Seven last year, and thought I’d give them a heads-up for old time’s sake.

That was the first kitten cam I ever watched, and I spent 100s of hours watching them last year, saving screenshots – I have 100s. I also downloaded some of the video from Ustream – I was obsessed with those little guys! I’m glad some of them have Facebook pages – I can look at the public photos, even though I hate FB and refuse to join. Of course, I can’t comment on the FB pages. I also follow the YouTube videos that Nat (Loki) and Diane (Venus) have posted. I wish there was some news about Taco and Ramon (was he renamed Quincy?), and Noodles!

I do follow John and his fosters, but I don’t have the time to immerse myself in them like I did with the Seven. They’re all so adorable – but I can’t spend hours watching. Last year my email Inbox filled up while I was watching The Seven, and I still haven’t really caught up.

The Seven Kittens will always be special to me – I wanted to adopt them myself! I wished they would have been adopted in pairs or 3s, so some of them could stay together always, but they all got good homes apparently, and that’s good. I hope Hank’s family doesn’t really let him go outside though – that’s not good.

Happy Birthday Loki, Venus, Spooky, Cosmo, Taco, Hank and Ramon! Happy Anniversary Noodles, wherever you are – you were a WONDERFUL mom! Best wishes Jen and Kara, and thanks for showing The Seven Kittens to the world!

    1. That was a special litter. It was my first too. I wish too there was more news about the others, especially Noodles. She was such a good mom and real beauty.

  2. Susan, thanks for this post and sharing the link. I have loved following some on FB. I wanted to adopt one (Ramon), too — in fact, sent a note saying I’d come from MI on Labor Day to do it! Didn’t happen, but as you know, watching the seven kittens helped me heal from the loss of Gypsy and reminded me how wonderful these four legged creatures are. They helped me move toward Lizzie Cosette (best girl yet!) and new joy.

Happy Birthday, Seven Kits, now Cats! You gave great joy — and isn’t that the best?
